India
India's Malabar Coast has been exporting coffee since the 1600s — and one of the most unusual processing traditions in the world was born entirely by accident. When green coffee traveled by sailing ship from India to Europe, the months-long voyage through monsoon humidity transformed the beans: they swelled, lost acidity, and developed a uniquely mellow, full-bodied character. Today, that transformation is intentional. Our India Monsooned Malabar is deliberately exposed to the southwest monsoon winds for 12–16 weeks, replicating that historic sea voyage in the coffee-growing hills of Karnataka.
The result is a coffee unlike any other. Silky and low-acid with a peanut-forward nuttiness, early notes of black tea, and an aroma of vanilla and dark caramel that gives way to hints of semi-sweet chocolate. The body is substantial without being heavy — a coffee that drinks smooth at any roast level.
This is a high-caffeine origin, making it a favorite for those who want a serious morning cup without the sharp acidity of East African or Central American coffees. Monsooned Malabar is a conversation starter — and once you understand its story, it tastes even better.

A Note from the Roasters
“India doesn’t get the attention it deserves in specialty coffee conversations. People think Ethiopia or Colombia and overlook this gem. Monsooned Malabar is the coffee we reach for when we want something smooth, substantial, and a little unexpected. The story behind it — ships, monsoons, centuries of tradition — makes it one of our favorites to talk about.”
